U-924 *Josef Helmes:With the last boat, U-924, we were in the school flotilla with the commanders' and LI schools (22nd U-FI.) in the last year of the war, from 1944 on. Since the Russians were advancing more and more, we went from Gotenhafen to Hela (3/5/1945). Finally we picked up provisions in Gotenhafen several times, since there was already artillery fire in Oxhoft and in the center of the city. At night our boat departed from Hela, and in Rendsburg we heard the news of the sinking of the Gustloff. Through the KW Canal we went to Bornholm, where we picked up 14 Flak helpers, a mong others. Our destination was Kiel, where many U-Boats waited, using their snorkels. As for our orders, see duty tour certificate and running slip (to General Command, Admiral of the U-Boats, Hamburg).
