U-721 Fabricius writes in Schaltung Kuste: "At first I was surprised to hear that nothing is known of refugees being transported in U-boats. There must have been a number of commanders who took part in these actions at the time. -- Late in February 1945 I was sent on the march to the east with my boat in order to carry out a few drills in Hela near the Agru front. Since Danzig was already a sea of flames, we received the order to march off to the west. We received the order to take along civilians, military troops and wounded.
