Fabricius writes in Schaltung Kuste: "At first I was surprised to 
hear that nothing is known of refugees being transported in U-boats.
There must have been a number of commanders who took part in these 
actions at the time. -- Late in February 1945 I was sent on the 
march to the east with my boat in order to carry out a few drills 
in Hela near the Agru front. Since Danzig was already a sea of 
flames, we received the order to march off to the west. We received 
the order to take along civilians, military troops and wounded. 
Every boat took about 100 persons on board."
